Coaching for Data Leaders.

I work with data professionals who want to strengthen their leadership, navigate complex situations with more confidence and grow into roles where they have real influence.

Every coaching journey is tailored. During our time together, we’ll focus on the practical steps, conversations and decisions that matter most to you.

Every conversation leads to something concrete: language to use, a way to frame the issue, or a next step that feels doable.

Why people invest in coaching.

Better long-term decision-making

Clients often say they feel more confident making decisions, and less stuck or reactive because they’ve worked through options in a calm, thoughtful way.

A clearer sense of where to focus

Coaching helps you understand what really matters in your role, and what you can let go of, so you use your time and energy well.

More confidence in complex situations

Over time, difficult conversations, presentations and stakeholder expectations feel more manageable because you’ve built the skills to handle them.

Stronger influence and leadership presence

You get better at communicating your work, positioning yourself and showing up in senior conversations in a way that lands.

Support securing internal funding.

Some clients choose to invest in coaching themselves, while others prefer to explore whether their employer can support the cost.

Once we’ve had an intro call and I understand your goals, I can help you shape a business case to share with your manager or HR team. This explains the value of coaching and how it supports both your growth and the company’s strategic priorities.

If you’d like support approaching the conversation with internal stakeholders, we can discuss this and make a plan during our initial intro call.

FAQs.

What will our first session will look like?

Our first session will be used to define your goals and understand the challenges you’re facing. We will define an action plan for how to work towards overcoming those challenges.

What is your coaching style?

My approach is friendly and collaborative and highly outcomes driven. I love to listen and to understand the challenges my clients are facing. I ask a lot of questions are work hard to get to the route cause of their challenges. But it's not all talk. What really counts is action. Together we will decide a course of action and I will act as your accountability partner to make sure you do the things you've promised yourself you'll do.

Who are you a good fit for?

People either in, or wanting to go into data leadership roles, specifically where they will be managing teams and liaising with senior business stakeholders.

Also, I love to work with data professionals who are action orientated. I love clients who are highly coachable. People who are willing try out the strategies we uncover during our calls and put them to the test in the real world.

Who are you not a good fit for?

Data professionals who are primarily interested in progressing their careers more towards technical/individual contributor roles.

I'm also not a good fit for anyone looking for someone to complain to. Yes, airing your frustrations is a huge part of coaching and getting to the bottom of challenges will require diving deep on problems. But if you're not interested in doing anything about it and just want to get things off your chest, then I might not be the one for you.

What areas that people typically focus on?

People often come to coaching with challenges like:

  • Deciding between technical and management roles
  • Next steps in career progression
  • Transitioning to leadership positions
  • Influencing senior leadership and getting buy-in
  • Demonstrating the value of data
  • Balancing technical and managerial responsibilities
  • Promoting data literacy and a data-driven culture
  • Establishing data strategies and roadmaps
  • Translating technical insights to executive teams.
  • Overcoming hierarchical obstacles

We tackle these issues together to acheive the following goals:

  • Establishing a structure for progression towards a more senior position.
  • Creating a culture of trust and clarity within the organisation.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with executives and peers
  • Building confidence to advocate for a team and dedicated budget
  • Working on strategic plans articulated as a team
  • Shaping company strategy and market strategies effectively
  • Articulating the value of data and having the right conversations with stakeholders
Do you coach people outside of data?

I certainly do. I have worked with consultants and strategists, as well as people in tech such as engineers, product managers, experimentation professionals and all sorts. If it doubt, schedule some time with me and together we can see if we are the right fit for each other.

Tristan has profoundly transformed my understanding of what it means to be a data leader. Leadership skills extend far beyond what's tested on HackerRank or showcased through countless technical certifications. Through Tristan's guidance, I now possess a deeper comprehension of effective data practices, which has significantly boosted my confidence in my role. His approach to "managing up" and demonstrating the intrinsic value of data in all business facets has been pivotal. Instead of viewing the data team as a mere service desk, we now integrate data seamlessly into our core operations, effectively disrupting its previous misuse.

Highly recommended for any current or aspiring Data Leader. There's a wealth of knowledge about project prioritization, CRO, and marketing attribution. However, the best aspect of working with Tristan is the stakeholder management coaching. He provides many interesting exercises and communication tips that have helped me better understand how to influence top-tier executives even more effectively!

Sr. Manager Toolset & Problems - Netherlands

I noticed I was struggling to get the support within our organisation that my team needed to deliver what the business needed. I had a hard time articulating how our deliverables would help the business as a whole, even though it is obvious for me and my team. Thanks to my conversations with Tristan, I got a different perspective on the issues I was grappling with, and on some of the things I was not considering, giving me a clearer picture on what to focus on. Tristan also helped me understand some of my strengths and weaknesses better. All this allowed me to figure out other ways to get my message across.

Tristan helped me to understand that everything was fine with my approach. I had enough skills (soft and hard), but there was plenty of room for improvement. And he did not leave me alone in that room even after coaching.

Tris is a remarkable professional to collaborate with; however, what stands out most is that he's an exemplary individual. He possesses extensive knowledge in data-related matters and has the remarkable ability to turn seemingly negative situations into opportunities for growth. From a career perspective, his skills inspire me to continually strive for progress and keep moving forward.

I have been working with Tristan for roughly six months. In that time, he has become an indispensable asset to me. Before Tristan, I had just become the sole data personnel for a state bank. I was floundering trying to push the organization forward from our outdated data practices.  Tristan was able to help me think about long-term goals and build a foundation to foster those goals. Not only has he done this for my current role, but he has also helped me plan my career path. I can't recommend his services enough!
